How to start with article marketing?

Wednesday, February 24th, 2010

The Internet is full of content-rich articles that readers can use for informative purposes; this is also a cheap way for advertisers to spread the word about their companies. Search engines look for fresh information permanently hence, articles and keywords will help you match the new trends and be profitable with any online activity you may be running. And since content has most power, the demand for article marketing articles has grown higher than ever. Why article marketing? First of all because it provides very cheap advertising, and secondly the market exposure is incredible thanks to backlinks.

The nature of informative content differs; some articles are just fiction, while others provide solid, reliable content. Nevertheless, they manage to inform the audience, keep interest vivid and turn simple website visitors into customers. These very paragraphs that you are reading now will turn this material into one of the article marketing articles published in article directories for the dissemination of information. There is a double finality here: on the one hand the author gets exposure, and on the other, the reader learns the basics about making money with article marketing.

Learn how to research a niche by reading various article marketing articles. Writing articles is not easy, particularly when you don’t have a clue about the domain you target. Therefore, the strongest recommendation goes towards those areas that make you comfortable, or in which you take pleasure. Plan things in advance here, since, a set number of articles will be required monthly, weekly or daily. Submission to blogs and directories follows once work is finished.

Keywords matter most for article marketing. Articles ought to take the keyword as the main topic, because you can thus define a certain aspect of your domain, product or service in a more comprehensive way. If you can claim success with these aspects, then, article marketing will be profitable for you. The writing style, the spelling, the grammatical correctness also matter greatly, besides keywords.

You will submit articles to large directories like Enzinearticles.com or GoArticles.com in order to make the best of article marketing. You can receive a good exposure on the world wide web and build a good author’s profile. Content for websites is then created starting from such article directories with multiple applications for business purposes. Have a look on what article marketing materials offer in terms of information and you will be able to determine what course of action to take for business promotion.

help with backlinks

Backlinks commonly referred to as ‘page links’ are critical to the visibility of your web pages in the search engines and attracting visitor traffic. When thinking about backlinks there are three things you need to consider, the web page from which the backlinks are derived, the anchor text of the backlinks and the content of the page to which the backlinks sends the visitor to.

The volume of backlinks

The number of backlinks to a page is one of the factors the search engines consider when deciding where to position the page in the SERPS (Search Engine Page Results).

The origin of the backlinks

The pages from which backlinks originate pass ‘authority’ and traffic to the page to which the backlinks point. So it follows that pages with backlinks from authoritative pages will receive fairer consideration from the search engines. Pages from sources such as educational (.edu) or government (.gov) sites naturally posess more trust and authority.

Google Page Rank

Google has the concept of ‘page rank’, this is the property it awards to a page it considers to have accumulated authority over time from backlinks pointing towards it.

The ‘anchor text’

When you see a backlink on a web page it often has a label a word or text associated with the content at the page to which this backlink is pointing, what this ‘anchor text’ says has influence upon the value the search engines award to the link. If the content of the page is about ‘parenting’ and the backlink on the page is labeled or given the ‘anchor’ text ‘parenting’ then the search engines consider this to be of more value to the searcher looking for content related to ‘parenting’ than if the backlink was labeled ‘babycare’.

Common issues

It’s not unusual for first timers to confuse the quantity with the quality of backlinks and easily be frustrated by their lack of progress Having a significant volume of backlinks to your page doesn’t necessarily mean the search engines will see your page as relevant.

How to build backlinks

So let me share with you my fail safe process for acquiring backlinks that will make the search engines take notice of you and bring quality and appropriate visitors to your web site.

  1. It is essential you select the right keywords before you expend any effort whatsoever.
  2. I always set out to create a keyword cloud.
  3. You should always begin by identifying a key word or phrase which has a a constant and high amount of traffic.
  4. The fastest and cheapest method to find out how much traffic a keyword or key phrase is getting is to use the Google keywords discovery tool.
  5. I carefully consider words and search phrases related to my primary phrase and create my ‘cloud’.
  6. I then create content in the form of articles and videos containing backlinks with the correct ‘anchor text’ to my ‘money’ or ‘target’ page and push these to a wide range of content directories.
  7. When I author content I do so with the searcher in mind so as each item of content attracts backlinks to itself as well as sends backlinks to my target pages.

backlinks

For any web page to be ‘ranked’ in the search engines and attract visitors it’s essential it has backlinks. Backlinks have three key elements, the web page from which the backlinks originate, the anchor text of the backlinks and what’s on the page to which the backlinks directs the visitor to.

The amount of backlinks

Just about all of the search engines consider the number of backlinks to a web page when deciding where this page should be presented in the search results.

The source of the backlinks

The source of a backlink can pass authority and indeed traffic to the page to which it points. So it follows that pages with backlinks from ‘trusted pages will receive fairer consideration from the search engines. Pages from sources such as educational (.edu) or government (.gov) sites naturally carry more trust and authority.

Google Page Rank

Google has the notion of ‘page rank’, this is the property it awards to a page it considers to have accumulated authority over time from backlinks pointing towards it.

The ‘anchor text’

When you see a backlink on a web page it sometimes has a label a word or text related to the content at the page to which this backlink is pointing, what this ‘anchor text’ says has influence upon the value the search engines give to the link. If the content of the page is about ‘parenting’ and the backlink on the page is labeled or given the ‘anchor’ text ‘parenting’ then the search engines consider this to be of more value to the searcher looking for information related to ‘parenting’ than if the backlink was labeled ‘babycare’.

Common issues

It’s not unheard of for newbies to confuse the quantity with the quality of backlinks and become quickly perplexed by their lack of progress For instance if the volume of your backlinks to your ‘parenting’ page come from sites not related to ‘parenting’ then whilst you have backlinks they will almost certainly bring you the wrong traffic.

How to manufacture backlinks

So let me share with you my no nonsense approach for getting backlinks that will make the search engines love you and bring the right type and appropriate traffic to your web site.

  1. Selecting the right keywords from the beginning is essential.
  2. I always aim to create a keyword cloud.
  3. I most often start with a single primary keyword or key phrase which has substantial visitor traffic.
  4. The fastest and cheapest method to find out how much traffic a keyword or key phrase is getting is to use the Google keywords discovery tool.
  5. I look at words and search phrases relative to my ‘top’ level phrase and build my ‘cloud’.
  6. From this cloud I generate a library of content containing articles, videos and blog posts each with backlinks embedded with the right anchor text and then utilize a portfolio of content distribution systems to push my content to a wide range of directories.
  7. My guiding principle is to author content that will attract traffic and persuade them to follow the backlinks to my target pages as well as send backlinks.

Why backlinks are essential to bringing traffic to your web pages

back links

Backlinks often referred to as ‘page links’ are essential to the visibility of your web pages in the search engines and attracting visitor traffic. To understand backlinks there are three elements you need to consider, the web page from which the backlinks are derived, the anchor text of the backlinks and the content of the page to which the backlinks directs the visitor to.

The number of backlinks

All search engines look at the volume of backlinks to a web page when deciding where this page should be displayed in the search results.

The source of the backlinks

The source of a backlink can pass authority and indeed searchers to the page to which it points. So it follows that pages with backlinks from authoritative pages will receive better consideration from the search engines. Great examples of trusted sources of backlinks carrying higher authority are pages in education (.edu) and government (.gov) web sites..

Google Page Rank

Backlinks from web pages with high page rank (a value given by Google to any page that it considers over a period to have attracted, sustained and continued to accumulate relevant backlinks) pass some of their page rank via the backlink to the target page.

The ‘anchor text’

Similar to a label, the backlink anchor text influences the search engines classification of the backlink.

Many people undermine their backlinks building activities because they focus on quantity as opposed to quality of backlinks. For instance if a significant number of your backlinks to your ‘parenting’ page originate from sites not related to ‘parenting’ then whilst you have backlinks they will almost always bring you the wrong visitors.

How to manufacture backlinks

So let me tell you my no nonsense approach for getting backlinks that will make the search engines love you and bring the right type and appropriate traffic to your web pages.

  1. Choosing the right keywords from the outset is essential.
  2. I like to create a keyword ‘cloud’.
  3. You should always start by identifying a key word or phrase which has a high volume of traffic.
  4. The fastest and cheapest method to find out how much traffic a keyword or key phrase is getting is to use the Google keywords discovery tool.
  5. I analyse words and search phrases associated with my ‘top’ level phrase and create my ‘cloud’.
  6. I then manufacture content in the form of articles and videos with backlinks with the correct ‘anchor text’ to my ‘money’ or ‘target’ page and push these to a wide range of content directories.
  7. When I write my content I do so with the searcher in mind so as each piece of content attracts backlinks to itself as well as sends backlinks to my target pages.

Backlinks and search engines

backlinks

For any web page to be ‘ranked’ in the search engines and receive traffic it’s essential it has backlinks. Backlinks have three key properties, the web page from which the backlinks come from, the anchor text of the backlinks and the content of the page to which the backlinks sends the visitor to.

The amount of backlinks

The majority of search engines look at the quantity of backlinks to a web page when deciding where this page should be presented in the search results.

The origin of the backlinks

Backlinks are very similar to votes with different ‘rights’ that relate to where they originate from So it follows that pages with backlinks from authoritative pages will receive better consideration from the search engines. Government (.gov) and educational (.edu) sites are obvious examples of sites that are authoritative and trustworthy.

Google Page Rank

Google has the notion of ‘page rank’, this is the property it awards to a page it considers to have a history of accumulating authority from backlinks..

The ‘anchor text’

Just like a label, the backlink anchor text influences the search engines classification of the backlink. If the content of the page is about ‘parenting’ and the backlink on the page is labeled or given the ‘anchor’ text ‘parenting’ then the search engines consider this to be of more value to the searcher looking for information related to ‘parenting’ than if the backlink was labeled ‘babycare’.

Common problems

A lot of people mess up their backlinks building activities because they focus on quantity as opposed to quality of backlinks. Having a substantial volume of backlinks to your page doesn’t necessarily mean the search engines will consider your page as relevant.

How to build backlinks

So here is my tried and tested guidance for getting backlinks to your pages, high rankings in the search engine results pages and quality traffic to your site.

  1. It is essential you get the right keywords before you expend any effort whatsoever.
  2. I always aim to put together a keyword cloud.
  3. You should always begin by identifying a key word or phrase which has a good traffic.
  4. The fastest and cheapest method to find out how much traffic a keyword or key phrase is getting is to use the Google keywords discovery tool.
  5. I carefully consider words and search phrases related to my ‘top’ level phrase and build my ‘cloud’.
  6. I then create content in the form of articles and videos containing backlinks with the correct ‘anchor text’ to my ‘money’ or ‘target’ page and push these to the various directories.
  7. My golden rule is to author content that will attract traffic and compel them to follow the backlinks to my target pages as well as send backlinks.

Google authority explained and the wrong way to get backlinks

backlinks clinic

Hmmmm, this is a immersive concept and I need to emphasise it’s not an exact science. But here is what I have learned in my work at the Backlinks clinic:

Authority - simplified

The more authority your site has the better you will rank on Google. Authority means that people trust you and your information. The good news is that authorities trusted by humans are also trusted by Google. A great example is the .edu and .gov suffixes. These suffixes imply they are credible sources of content and it’s an established fact that as far as Google is concerned backlinks from these web addresses to your web pages will contribute authority to your web pages. Another perfect example is Wikipedia as the contents here are largely added by by group of humans as opposed to a single person.

So it follows that authority is very heavily influenced by the source of your backlinks and if authoritative web pages link to you then you receive their apparent trust and in the eyes of Google you become more authoritative and hence the trust in your site by Google increases.

How Google determines what is and isn’t authoritative is a guarded secret for solid reasons and aligns with Google’s thinking of “Do no evil”. The last thing the web needs is an individual or a group exploiting the methods that Google employs in its efforts to try and regulate probably the most significant technological development of this period in history.

How not to get Backlinks

In the same vein it’s valuable to state some obvious sources and methods of building backlinks that Google not only disapproves of but appears to be moving aggressively to ‘’categorize as illegitimate authorities. In no particular order of merit, the common offenders are:

  • Paid backlinks – web sites where individuals purchase and sell backlinks
  • Comment spam – entries that contain links on web sites that are just not associated to the main content.
  • Low quality and *duplicate content – ‘scraped’ or otherwise
  • Unnatural growth – there are a myriad of ways that this is achievable, Google isn’t dumb. Any sudden rise in the number of backlinks is going to register on Google’s monitoring systems, specifically if it’s a recently registered domain.
  • Backlinks from unscrupulous web pages – these are particularly nasty as you are guilty by association - need I say more.

*There is another factor where I may be on shakey ground, but major news properties seem to get a lot of authority and I have definitely found significant numbers of the same article over and over again on different portals with no penalties, I am still monitoring this, only as a portion of of the results I am seeing go against the consistent behaviors I normally expect to see. More on this is in a future post….

Backlinks methods you should avoid

how to get more backlinks

Phew, this is a immersive subject and I need to emphasise it’s not an exact science. But here is what I know in my analysis at the Backlinks clinic:

Authority - simplified

The more authority your site has the higher you will rank on Google. Authority means that searchers trust you and your information. The good news is that authorities trusted by humans are also recognised as trustworthy by Google. A good illustration is the .edu and .gov domain extensions. These domains imply they are trustworthy sources of content and it’s an established fact that as far as Google is concerned backlinks from these web addresses to your web pages will “pass on” authority to your site. Another good example is Wikipedia as the web pages here are largely contributed to by tribes of people as opposed to a single marketer.

So it follows that authority is largely influenced by the source of your backlinks and if authoritative sites link to your web pages then you receive their authority and as far as Google is concerned you become more authoritative and so the trust in your site by Google increases.

How Google decides what is and isn’t authoritative is undisclosed for solid reasons and falls in line with Google’s philosophy of “Do no evil”. The last thing the net needs is someone exploiting the methods that Google uses in its efforts to try and bring some order to probably the most important technological resource of our times.

How not to get Backlinks

And on this thought it’s worth my while stating some common sources and practices of building backlinks that Google not only disapproves of but appears to be acting to ‘classify’ as illegitimate authorities. In no particular order of severity, the common offenders are:

  • Paid backlinks – places where people purchase and sell backlinks
  • Comment spam – entries that have links on web pages that are just not associated to the main content.
  • Low quality and *duplicate content – ‘scraped’ or otherwise
  • Unnatural growth – there are a large selection of ways that this is achievable, Google isn’t stupid. Any sudden rise in the amount of backlinks is going to show up on Google’s monitoring systems, especially if it’s a recently registered domain.
  • Backlinks from bad reputation sites – these are particularly nasty as you are guilty by association - need I say more.

*There is another factor where I may be on shakey ground, but major media portals appear to get a lot of authority and I have definitely found significant numbers of the same article over and over again on different web sites with no penalties, I am still looking at this, only as a portion of of the results I am seeing defy the normal behaviors I normally expect to see. backlinks clinic

OK, this is a multi-faceted concept and I want to emphasise it’s not clear cut. But here is what I have learned in my work at the Backlinks clinic:

Authority - simplified

The more authority your web pages have the higher you will rank on Google. Authority means that people trust you and your content. Another shining example is Wikipedia as the contents here are largely added by by group of people as opposed to a single person.

So it follows that authority is significantly influenced by the source of your backlinks and if authoritative content link to your site then you inherit their authority and as far as Google is concerned you become more authoritative and hence the trust in your site by Google increases.

How Google declares what is and isn’t authoritative is kept secret for good reason and aligns with Google’s thinking of “Do no evil”. The last thing the Internet needs is someone manipulating the mechanisms that Google employs in its efforts to try and regulate probably the most important technological asset of this period in history.

Backlinking methods you should avoid

In the same vein it’s valuable to state some distasteful sources and practices of building backlinks that Google not only dislikes but appears to be moving aggressively to ‘classify’ as negative authorities. In no particular order of severity, the common offenders are:

  • Paid backlinks – hubs where individuals buy and sell backlinks
  • Comment spam – entries that contain links on web pages that are just not associated to the main content.
  • Low quality and *duplicate content – ‘scraped’ or copied
  • Fast growth – there are a large selection of ways that this is achievable, Google isn’t stupid. Any sudden increase in the amount of backlinks is going to register on Google’s monitoring systems, especially if it’s a recently registered domain.
  • Backlinks from villainous sites – these are particularly destructive as you are guilty by association - need I say more.

*There is another factor where I may be on shakey ground, but major media properties appear to get a lot of authority and I have definitely observed significant quantities of the same article over and over again on different web sites with no penalties, I am still looking at this, only as a portion of of the results I am seeing go against the normal behaviors I usually expect to see. Content is QUEEN Links are KING!!!

Thursday, September 17th, 2009

You’ve probably heard the old phrase content is king you know?  I am here to tell you that you’ve been told a bunch of malarkey, because the so called gurus you might be following is blowing smoke up places where it shouldn’t be blown.

I know this article is not what you are probably used to hearing about blog marketing but it’s true.  I cannot tell you which sites these were, since they aren’t mine to divulge.  Here is the secret: content isn’t king, but one way links ARE!

Here’s the deal I have recently started working for a new client because their pages couldn’t seem to get to the first page of Google so I took the challenge and went to work for them.

The first page I read made me wonder why it was even there.  All of the content was extremely poorly written as if someone with no or very limited English speaking and writing skills had attempted to write the article.  I think the source is  a content spinner. They are not neatly written variations of sentences but a product of crap article spinning software.

To highlight just how bad the previous SEO guy had done, he put these crappy pages up in some very competitive keyword markets somehow expecting them to rank highly.  It was clear to me with only a moments glance there was no hope of that ever happening.

A 5 year old could do this good even with only a free article spinner he got in 2 minutes off of download com.

The internal site structure was all messed up, the internal links had things like ‘home’ as anchor text, there was no sitemap, and I don’t even want to get into the trashy incoming links from other sites.

This is what seems to be clear from the results and that is if content was king then there is no way that Google should be showing those pages on the first page of any search.  I went on with my study and research. I will tell you about my finding.

All of the sites had mucho one way links to their domain even if they were trashy links from low quality and low authority websites.  Next I examined the sites which were on later pages of Google, and I discovered that even though the non-English content was the same, there weren’t any links.  So then I decided to take a look at the pages they couldn’t get ranked and see what the problem was…it turned out to be too few incoming backlinks.

So I just copied the links from the other pages and in two weeks I was a hero in my clients eyes, due to the fact that they are now on the first page of Google for all the sites they hired my for initially.

I did this mainly to prove a point to them and get fast results and now am going back to get them quality links from power, authority domains so their sites will have staying power in their first page rankings.

Naturally I got the SEO duties. I have also found the secret to SEO rankings with blog marketing and it’s LINKS after LINKS.

Are You Doing Effective Traffic Generation

Thursday, September 10th, 2009

I am doubtless that  you have been told of the thousands of hits that some of the biggest websites on the internet acquires every day. The biggest and most exceedingly trafficed sites have become enormous money creating machines, that make typical people into online multimillionaires. They put to use a variety of methods and tricks to stay ahead of the game, but they also always ensure they have the marketing essentials covered as explained in zero friction marketing.

The two most powerful methods for a website manager to generate traffic to their website are exchanging links and writing and submitting articles.

Exchanging links is a tried and tested technique for improved search engine positioned, search engines prefer sites that have both external and internal back links going towards to the main page as well as backlinks to  other pages on the website.Link exchanges are at their most powerfull when sites which contains related content have links pointing to each other. There are quite a few link exchanges some are free and some are extremely expensive as they have component of automation.

Writing articles and then add them to a number of article directories is a hugely effective method to generate traffic.Traffic created from articles is usually great at converting as the reader is pre sold when they read the article. It is essential to make sure the article is of a good quality and over three hundred words long. The article should also have just enough information to entice the reader to click the link to your website. There are hundreds of article directories which you can submit your article to that will also boost the number of links to your website. These backlinks are one way links which are looked upon as better in the eyes of the search engines,as said by zero friction marketing review. for all that the problem with article marketing is that each article takes time to write at a acceptable standard and also takes quite a long time to submit, in spite of the results are excellent

If you allocate time to understand more and take action the above methods , you will definitely see a large expansion in your traffic levels.
